Novak marks down four goals
DOGS SHUT OUT HORNS
SASKATOON SK – The second game of the weekend between the University of Saskatchewan Huskies and the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns was quite different from the previous night. The Huskies go up on the Horns early and managed to take the second game of the weekend 7-0.
The Huskies started off strong with Brett Novak and Mason Wallin both scoring within the first six minutes of the game, putting the Dogs up 2-0. Huskies Novak then scored his second of the game, the first of only two even-strengthed goals, assisted by Alekcei McAvoy, to put the Dogs up by three. Huskies Wallin finished off the first period by putting his second goal, the only other even-strengthed goal, of the evening past Pronghorns goaltender John Haggis.
The Horns switched up their goaltenders to start off the second period by putting in Blake Ward but Huskies Novak managed to slide his third past his pads, making the score 5-0. Novak made the score 6-0 with his fourth goal as the pack scrambled in front of the net to put the puck past Pronghorn defense. Huskies Matt Girling sunk their last goal into the back of the net to wrap up the second period.
Another goal-less third period left the Huskies with a 7-0 win and Huskies goaltender Jeff Harvey with another CIS shut-out.
“Tonight\'s game was a game in which we were opportunistic. You don\'t see many 7-0 games in the CIS and it wasn\'t one that we expected. Our power-play clicked early and made them pay for a couple penalties. We scored some good goals due to some adjustments that we made. Penalties just got the best of them (Lethbridge) tonight,” commented Huskies head coach Dave Adolph on the performance of this team.
The Huskies hit the ice again next weekend, 19/01/07 & 20/01/07, when they face off against the University of Alberta Golden Bears, in Edmonton. The Pronghorns also play again next weekend in their own barn when they square-off against the University of Manitoba Bisons.
