Fourth-year senior hockey forward Mason Wallin of the Saskatchewan Huskies has been named the Canada West Male Athlete of the Week and Hockey Player of the Week for the week ending Oct. 22.
The 5’10”, 180-pound Commerce student from Prince Albert, SK scored five points in leading the CIS No. 5-ranked Huskies to a two-game road sweep of the Manitoba Bisons on October 20-21.
Wallin scored the insurance goal in the Huskies’ 7-4 win in the series-opener on Friday night, as he netted his first short-handed goal of the season to give Saskatchewan a two-goal lead. In Saturday’s series finale, Wallin scored three goals and had an assist for his conference-leading second hat trick of the season. The fourth-year forward scored once in each period and assisted on Brett Novak’s game-winning power-play goal.
The five-point series places Wallin atop the conference scoring list with 8-4-12 in six games. His eight goals are also first in the conference.
