Huskies and Golden Bears fight to a draw

Even though it was a meaningless game, the University of Alberta Golden Bears and University of Saskatchewan Huskies fought to the bitter end.

Down by a goal with eight seconds left in the third period, Huskies veteran Trent Adamus batted the puck past Golden Bear goalie Aaron Sorochan to tie the game at four in the final game of the Huskie Hockey Classic tournament.

“It was a pretty good game for a non-conference who cares kind of cup,” said Huskies head coach Dave Adolph. “It was two good teams in a battle to the end.”

The game moved into a five-minute overtime period but 4-4 is where the game stayed.

The third period is where the action was six goals between the two teams in the frame. Mason Wallin scored the other three goals in the game for the Huskies. Dylan Stanley scored in the second period for the Golden Bears and Brian Woolger, Chad Klassen and Harlon Anderson scored in the third.

Jeff Harvey and Russell Monette stopped 51 shots for the Huskies and Sorochan made 28 for the Golden Bears.

The Huskie Classic was a six-team preseason tournament held at Saskatoon’s Jemini Arena and wrapped up Saturday.

Other scores from the Saturday’s games: SAIT Trojans lost to the Regina Cougars 5-2 and the Calgary Dinos downed the Manitoba Bisons 8-3.
