Hockey Dogs lose two straight

Oct 28
Saskatoon, Sk.

While it took the Calgary Dinos until late in the second period to find their scoring touch, they were able to open up the game scoring as Trevor Galan made good on his wicked shot to put the Dinos up 1-0 heading into the third period. After two quick goals by Calgary to start the final frame, the Huskies found themselves in a hole they could not dig themselves out of, eventually losing 4-1.

The first period started with a torrid pace as both teams had great opportunities to get on the board first. With both net-minders keeping their teams in the game, it would be up to the offenses to create scoring chances. The opening frame would finish tied at zeroes as both teams skated off the ice, with the shots 14-12 in favor of the Huskies.

Again, both teams came out flying to start the second period, knowing that on this night the first goal was going to be a big advantage. The Dogs came close on a couple of chances but again were unable to finish. The Dinos quickly capitalized on a Huskies turnover, as Trevor Galan snapped a shot by Huskies goaltender Jeff Harvey. Tyrel Lucas and Kyle Annesley would pick up the assists on the goal. After two periods the Dinos found themselves up 1-0.

In the third the Dinos were clearly the better team, beating the Huskies to the puck while mounting a 3-0 lead. Greg Park of the Huskies would rip a drive past the Calgary goalie to make it 3-1 but on this night it would be too little too late for the Dogs as they lose their second straight game 4-1.

Huskies head coach Dave Adolph realizes though it is still early in the season and his team will be better. "I think Calgary is one of the better teams in this league. Tonight we made three critical errors that really cost us. As a result they got the win. We have a lot of upside and we're going to be better. I knew there was going to be a challenge this whole first half, as a coach I know we're going to get better."

The Dogs now head out on the road as next weekend they will be in Lethbridge to take on the Pronghorns.
