It took the Manitoba Bisons three games to advance to the Canada West Semi- final by beating the visiting Regina Cougars 6-2 in game three Sunday afternoon. The Bisons now travel to Saskatchewan to face the Huskies. Power play goals and penalties were the story of the night with 4 out of the eight goals scored came on the power play and a total of 54 penalties assessed for 228 minutes.

The Bisons opened the scoring early in the first period by capitalizing on a Justin Wilchynski slashing penalty. At 3:57 Warren McCutcheon got in alone and beat Cougar goaltender Nathan Fischl with a quick backhand top corner. Both teams were somewhat sloppy with their discipline having to each kill of a two man advantage for over a minute during the first period. Both teams were able to escape unscathed.

The second period saw the Bisons increase their lead with the help of assistant captain Kevin Saurette netting two goals back to back in only 23 seconds, the first coming on the power play. It wasn\'t until the third when the game started to open up and the penalties began to be assessed. A total of 35 penalties were called in the third period alone with the majority coming at the 8:36 mark when a line scuffle broke out. Both lines, ten players in total, were ejected from the game. A few minutes prior to the scuffle Paul Deniset capitalized on the power play to make it a 4-0 game causing many Regina players to show their frustration. David McDonald and Dustin Hughes added to the Bison total at the 14:48 and 16:01 marks respectively to put the game out of reach for the Cougars. The Cougars did manage to spoil the shutout for Bisons goaltender Krister Toews however getting their first goal at 18:24 followed by a power play goal with only 18 seconds remaining for a final score of 6-2.

With the series victory the Bisons head to Saskatchewan to face the Huskies on March 3-5 in a best of three series.
