PRINCETON, N.J. - Reading rookie defenseman Chris Barr is the HOK Sport ECHL Plus Performer of the Month after leading the league with a plus-minus rating of +11 in November.
In his first full professional season, the 23-year-old was plus in seven games and even in three games while helping the Royals go 9-2-0 and move into first place in the North Division of the American Conference.
The 6-foot-3 and 205-pound Barr leads ECHL rookies and is tied for second among defenseman with a plus-minus rating of +12 in 16 games. Barr, who has been plus or even in all but two games and has not been worse than -1, has three points (1g-2a).
He played the last two seasons at the University of Saskatchewan where he had 13 points (1g-12a) and 128 penalty minutes in 52 games.
Barr played in the ECHL in 2003-04 and had 15 penalty minutes in 10 games with Florence and two points (1g-1a) and eight penalty minutes in nine games with Trenton.
The native of Nipawin, Saskatchewan played four years for Spokane in the Western Hockey League from 1999-2003 and had 42 points (12g-30a) and 471 penalty minutes in 239 regular season games and two assists and 47 penalty minutes in 30 playoff games.
